Can you move your car after a crash?

On Behalf of | Aug 25, 2022 | Car Accidents

If you get involved in a crash caused by another driver, you may be interested in moving your car. Perhaps it’s blocking the roadway and you want to clear the area so that other traffic can proceed. Maybe you actually think that the position of the car puts you in more danger because a secondary accident could happen.

There are a few things to consider after a crash of this sort. It may be fine to move your car to some degree, but you don’t want to make any mistakes that could complicate the situation.

Do not leave the scene of the accident

The thing to remember is that moving your car to the side of the road may be useful if it’s possible to do so safely. This is a very common tactic after minor car accidents.

But in the case of a more serious accident, moving your vehicle could be impossible or even dangerous. Plus, you may not want to move the vehicle until the authorities arrive so that they can make an accurate account of what to place. You don’t want to move the vehicle and then have the other driver dispute who caused the crash.

Finally, you never want to leave the scene of the accident. It’s one thing to move to the side of the road, but you can’t drive away entirely. Simply claiming that you were trying to clear the way for other traffic may not be enough if you’re accused of fleeing the scene.

Seeking compensation after a wreck

You can see just how chaotic and confusing a car crash can be. It can also leave you with a lot of very expensive bills and other costs. This is why you need to know what legal options you have to seek financial compensation.
